Application process and entry requirements

The entry requirements for most diplomas and first degrees are given in UCAS points
(UCAS is the organisation that deals with the application process). Students are awarded a certain number of points for qualifications like A-Levels, AS Levels and BTEC Diplomas.
Check out individual universities web sites and prospectuses for specific entry requirements because the UCAS points and GCSEs required will vary.

Most degree courses also ask for a minimum of 5 GCSEs grades A-C (usually including Maths and English, but sometimes others too). GCSEs are important for going to university, some courses may require different grades such as a ‘B’ in Maths GCSE or to include Science GCSEs, such as for teacher training.
